The History of Umino and Naru: R Season

Naru and Umino appear together very briefly at the start of episode 47 (the first episode of the Ail and Ann arc of R) when Natsumi and Seijuurou are first introduced to the class Umino jealously tries to outdo Seijuurou as far as flute playing and gets bopped on the head by Naru for his pains.

Naru appears in the next episode, but she and Umino do not appear together again until episode 51, when he slept all night in a sleeping bag under a cherry tree to reserve a spot for them, especially because Naru was going to be there. Naru zips him up in his sleeping bag as "a joke" because she's embarrassed. She had however made a lunch for Umino. Later on Umino tells her that she's more beautiful than the cherry blossoms, but alas the romantic moment is interrupted when a cardian attacks them, Umino tries to protect Naru but they're both knocked out.

For the most part over the next few episodes we don't see Naru and Umino because the episodes are devote to individual senshi recieving new powers. They are briefly shown in episode 55 as Makoto is walking around being melancholy. Umino has brought Naru friend shrimp (again) for lunch. Later on Ail and Ann comment that making a lunchbox for another is a sign of love.

Umino and Naru are in the next episode which centers around a play, Naru playing a rabbit and Umino an elephant, again he tries to help Naru when a cardian attacks, but this time he's foiled by his cumbersome costume and winds up knocking over Naru and most of the inner senshi as well.

They're not seen again until episode 77, when they're making 'promise ring' friendship bracelets for each other as a symbol of their affection. You weave the ring together out of cord while making a wish and if the ring unbinds the wish will come true.

In episode 80 Umino is affected by Dark Power and brainwashed into planting the suggestion around that Ami is cheating. Naru tries to appeal with him and it doesn't work. He continues to be affected until Ami and the others defeat the droid of the day.

Umino and Naru do not appear again in this season.
