Two years ago today we signed the mortgage paperwork on this house. I felt it auspicious that we were signing the paperwork on the Solstice, and despite the rough times we’ve been through with money and health, the house has always remained, a great comfort and great shelter.

Slowly and surely we’re getting used to each other, finding out the quirks, realizing what we have to do to keep things maintained. Houses really should come with a manual…but ah, well. No one said that being a responsible adult was easy.

Still two years today we signed the papers. It’s just a few hours yet we signed everything at 2 p.m. and got the keys and drove over here with a few boxes and brought them in. Then it was a Friday, and Saturday we rented a UHaul and tried to bring as much over as we could in the truck so that we could get the rest in cars. We weren’t fully out of the apartment until a few days after Christmas itself, but we were living in here from the night of the 22nd on.

There are still so many times were I wake up and can’t believe that we have our own house (well, by now I think we own the front door and front windows…30 year mortgage and all).

Still it’s awesome. We can have cats, and paint the place whatever color we want. I’m still slowly working on getting it painted red. I’m looking forward to the new year, and hoping that my health and disposition will continue to improve so that I can get that finished. It would be nice to have the whole house painted the same two colors instead of four.

I realized that I didn’t update about B.F.’s condition. Here I am about to get distracted by weight loss supplements and not actually do that, so I thought I better get to it. Especially as I have a lot of other things to do today. We’re having a cookout, a lot of friends and family coming over because between everyone we know there are FOUR birthdays around now. My husband’s just past, a friend and his son and Kore all this next week.

Anyway, I’m going to do it again. B.F. is doing quite a bit better. It’s looking like she will probably not have to have any surgical procedure or suturing, and she’s actually been pretty easy-going when Kore and I wrangle her into the bath tub to wash her wound with beta-dine and then apply the antibiotic cream. She’s still a bit off-balance, but overall she’s doing very, very well. We’re very pleased and thank everyone who has sent love, prayers, reiki and donations, to help Kore offset the vet bill.

The Joy Infection prompt for this week is: “Something small which has brought you joy”

For me this would have to be any number of things the munchkin does that are spontaneous showing of affection. The other day he climbed up in my lap and said, “Mummy, I love you,” and snuggled down on my chest. Then he sat up again and grabbed either side of my face with his hands so I had to look at him and said, “You know what?”
I asked, “No, what?”
And he said; “Water comes out of the sink!”

I couldn’t help but crack up. Here I was anticipating some grand revelation about how he loved me or loved Daddy too, and that’s what he says, still it was so awesome and completely random and retelling the story always lightens my mood.

I’m off to post my link to the week’s Joy Infection prompt

I hope to see others participating!

Today is the first prompt from Joy Infection.

Catriona asks:

Write about a time that something unexpected brought you great joy, particularly if it really cheered you up!

I actually have a very recent instance of this. I was feeling rather bummed about my birthday as I had blogged on the day. I spent the early portion of the day teaching the munchkin to clean up his room, and trying not to be too nervous about driving down to the airport to pick up my FIL’s girlfriend with him.

When we got back from the airport there was a huge thunderstorm and half the roads between FILs house and ours were flooded. Driving was very precarious especially with a cranky tired and hungry three year old in the car with me.

I finally got home around 7 p.m. to find that my husband and Kore had continued my efforts to clean, even to the point of washing all the dishes and mopping the floors, something I’d been meaning to do for several days. Kore had made a devil’s food cake with coffee icing, had potatoes au gratin baking and was also making steaks and a green bean dish that she’d learned from her brother-in-law. The house smelled and looked wonderful and I felt so loved.

It was just what I needed. It couldn’t have been more perfect if they were dressed up in tuxedo and formal dress and offering to take me out to a fancy restaurant. It was a nice relaxing evening at home, just what the doctor ordered.

We’re not going to talk about the fact that five minutes before the food was cooked the power went out.

…on Monday. What gets me about this is that I actually took the picture on Saturday! Then I still forgot to post it. Ah, well, here it is:

I know my expression is a bit funky, but it took me a billion tries to actually get the pumpkin in the background…so once I finally had one I was like that’s it. I’m going with it.

I’m trying to get where I’m actually blogging regularly again, and participating in the memes and things, like Self Portrait Sunday which this picture was taken for…but it’s been hard for me lately. I’m fighting constantly to have the drive to do net-related things, and I’m not sure what my problem is. I’m feeling like what I’m doing is kinda worthless I think. Which is a bit silly…maybe? I don’t know. It’s like there are other things that can be being done, that aren’t involving the computer. Yet some days I wind up just playings Sims2 when I’m using the computer time I allot myself…so what’s the point of that either?

Anyway, I’m going to stop being morbid and go to Cass’s most recent entry to check and see who has participated this week.

I finally found the picture I was going to post last Sunday:

Which I think is really cute even if I do say so myself. Roomie and I are planning on dyeing hair over the weekend, although I actually got compliments at the grocery store during the week from the people who were operating the Breast Cancer Awareness table because my hair is pink.

In other good things going on tonight the builder finished his part of the renovations:

We still have a bit of work that we have to do, including cleaning everything, scrubbing the excess plaster off the walls to smooth things out a bit, and bringing Roomie’s furniture and boxes in from various other rooms of the house, and the shed; but the builder did an amazing job in 15 days.

I remembered! I like participating in Val’s Four Foods on Friday meme but I keep forgetting and it’s very irritating to me that I do so. I love reading everyone else’s recipes and tips and tricks for getting by in the kitchen. This cooking thing is still pretty new to me. Anyway, on to the questions for this week.

#1. Artichokes. Love em or leave em?
#2. What’s your favorite kind of bean?
#3. Share a recipe for any kind of cake.
#4. What’s your favorite dairy product?

1. I sickened myself a bit on artichokes. I do like them, but when I worked at a pizza restaurant one of the dishes I used to have to prepare was the tortellini salad which was full of artichokes and, of course, when you make a dish you have to test it out. I haven’t had artichokes since, and it’s been almost six years since I worked there.

2. Now beans I’ve also been missing out on since I’ve been married because 90% of beans my husband won’t eat, except for green beans and edamame, so edamame are my current favorite, although I am fond of kidney beans and baked beans. Nothing like beans on toast!

3. Cake I cheat on. I figure why spend all this time making one from scratch when I can open a box from Pillsbury or Betty Crocker and make a yummy scrumptious cake in half the time. I love making marble cake:

That’s one I made for my Mum’s birthday this past March, which is not a great example of the marbling…but nonetheless you can see the nifty colors in the chocolate mix. I’ll get a chocolate cake (usually Devil’s Food) and a white cake mix and mix food coloring in with the white cake. I’ll usually do at least two different marble colors blue and purple, red and orange, something like that. One time I went “all out” and did each half of the cake different so we had a blue, purple, green bottom and a red, orange, yellow top. That was a bit much though.

4. Hrm…dairy…I love dairy. If you were asking my son this question he would say “cheese pwease,” he is a cheese fiend. Me, while I like cheese. I have to say whipped cream, LOL. It’s in so many scrumptious desserts, and I’ve just recently discovered the joy of making home-made chocolate truffles and they are so yummy when made with heavy whipping cream instead of whole milk.

I think it’s time to re-dye my hair, it’s fading out pretty badly. Although the underneath is pretty vibrant still, but who sees the underneath? I’m off to check out Self Portrait Sunday to see what this week’s participants are up to.
