CommentLuv

Monday, April 28th, 2008

I’ve been seeing the CommentLuv plugin on several of my friend’s blogs for a while now, but finally got around to installing it on my own. So, from now on when you comment on a post, provided you’re not an evil spammer type person you’ll get two linky-love for the price of one, as the plugin will find your last blog post and link it to the entry when it’s approved.

Thanks for commenting!

Talk to Me

Friday, April 18th, 2008

I was reading an article on Bloggers for Dollars about How to Engage your Readers and it mentions making a special page for people to comment to you so they don’t feel like they’re commenting “off-topic” about things, and I thought that’s a neat idea! I know I’m always a little apprehensive about commenting on things on other people’s blogs in case I’m commenting ‘in the wrong spot’ so it’s not unforseen that people are feeling the same way.

I’m going to tag this into my ‘About’ section so that it’ll be easily accessible.

So, here, drop me a line! Say you stopped by! Wave! Tag me for a meme!
I’d love to get to know some of my visitors better. I see some of you at least popping up on ‘MyBlogLog’ :)

Self Portrait Sunday

Self Portrait Sunday 04/13/08

The munchkin wanted in on the Self Portrait Sunday this week, and decided he wanted to show off. It’s hard to believe in just under two weeks he’ll be TWO. My baby’s disappearing into a strange little child.

To see how everyone else is fairing this week check out this week’s self portrait sunday post, which isn’t up yet. I’ll be checking back to see if I guessed the link correctly.

Anyway, now the munchkin is napping I’m going to see if I can’t get going on the new layout I want to do for this blog and another one that I have. I got a great commission from DuskFalls, my friend who did the wonderful lady for my tarot site so I want to make sure I can find a framework which will do it justice.

Move Along Now

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

I would say “nothing to see here” but that’s not quite true. You can see my Technorati Profile if you’d like.

I’m sure some of you have them also. So, let me know. I’d love to exchange favorites and so on. I haven’t been networking very well in the past few months. My brain’s not been in the right gear. I had two blogs on Technorati that I don’t even have any more. Go me.

Imported eryssa.net

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

I haven’t been keeping up very well with the picture of the day blog. So I’ve just gone ahead and imported all the pictures from that blog into this one. I’d kept wondering about it and wondering about it because I have at least kept up with better this year than I did when I initially started it but I feel that’s what I got for jumping before I thought things through. It’s a nice idea, but I need to build it up here first and if it gets popular branch it off into it’s own blog then.

So, if I can actually keep up with things, or even keep up with doing a picture a week aside from the self portrait sunday and it’s actually doing something and not just clogging up space in various areas I’ll then branch things off but for now that blog is going by the wayside. I may see if I can sell it to someone who will use it but given the name is a random character name of a D&D character of mine I don’t think it’ll be very popular.

Project Wonderful

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

I’ve been trying out Project Wonderful which is an ad placing service that I’ve seen on Akashik: Battle of Angels a nifty comic site that I check out daily. I’ve had it on my tarot reading site for almost a week now and thought I would try adding a few spots on this site to see what happens.

It seems to work well for placing ads, although I haven’t quite worked out a decent average for bids yet. I know the tarot site is a bit…narrow in it’s appeal, but perhaps the blog will be a bit more interesting to people. I like the way that the site is set up it’s easy to sign up and it’s very easy to customize. I haven’t tried out advertising yet. I’ll wait until I accrue a bit more funds in my account and then redistribute them.

More Thank Yous

Friday, February 29th, 2008

In this case it’s a thank you to Val at BusyMomma for sharing her Thank Yous with me after I posted mine yesterday.

Thank you, Val.

I’ve been pretty busy the past few days because I’ve been helping my Mum to move again. I still need to catch up with my Photo a Day blog and do some tarot readings for people. I have some earrings and jewelry to make as well.

It’s also bill-paying day, which really sucks. Things are going to be tight for a little while. We really have to watch our spending until we can balance things out.

Viral Linking Experiment Meme

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Val tagged me for this a while ago, and I keep opening the window in a tab so that I’ll remember to post it and then forgetting anyway.

Rule #1

Copy all the links below (make sure its alphabetized) and replace a single link under the appropriate alphabet. If your domain name, or even the title of your blog, starts with an ” A,” you’d replace the link under that alphabet and put the replaced link at the bottom. Also, don’t forget to credit the tagger, or where you got the list from, at the end of the list with a full URL of the post so that a pingback gets generated.

Rule #2

You now have to “tag” at least five people and encourage them to participate so that this thing spreads like a virus. Remember, though, that not everyone’s into these kinds of things, so don’t be upset if they don’t participate. Just simply replace your tag. Remember to tag blogs only and no pornographic ones as we do want to keep the integrity as a blogging community. TIP: Tag your frequent EntreCard droppers via its messaging system.

As for me, I will tag the following:

Rule #3

Just like any other “meme” out there, ask a question for your taggees to answer along with your own answer to the previous question. This is optional.

In answer to Val’s question, I started on livejournal in 2002, but I started blogging on this site (which triggered my various other domain blogs like dominoes) in September of 2005, so two and a half years. My archive does have earlier things but they were scavenged from freeservers before those journals were deleted.

To those that I’ve tagged, when did you start blogging?

Thanks all!

Am-I-Dumb.com - Intelligence Test

Every once in a while I find these quizzes and I have to take them. I started to zone out of the “State of the Union” address and this is what happens. I suppose I could amuse myself looking up random things online, like Adidas golf. Maybe I should do that…or find the Rubik’s cube that my husband hid in the kitchen somewhere. Apparently I was driving both of us batty with it…who knew?

New Comment Policy

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

You may remember from a few days that I was speaking about issues I’ve been having with spammy comments and key words in user names, and thanks to some of your comments and some email discussions going on I’ve now added a comment policy to the code on my site, so that it’s clear what I will and will not do or tolerate with regards to comments.

I’ve been forgetting that it’s “My blog. My rules.” That’s the ultimate line here. Someone who is trying to steal ranking from my site has no right to tell me that I MUST approve their comment because they’re doing me a favor. I dislike that they were making me feel guilty about policing my own blog. That was the worst part.

Thank you to Drew at Benspark.com for helping me see some common sense about this. I’ve borrowed a leaf from you with the comment policy. Thank you for the suggestions.

I do like when comments contribute to the discussion, but not at the price. You wouldn’t walk into a local restaurant and start putting fliers up all over the walls without asking the owner. The same goes here. As I told one gentleman in an email discussion even though I have two businesses that I run online web design and tarot reading I’m not going to go into someone else’s blog and start writing those keywords in to people’s comments because that’s just RUDE. I can’t believe what passes for etiquette with some people.
