B.F. Injuries
October 1st, 2009We had a huge scare yesterday and things are still ongoing. My roommate and sister’s, Kore’s, cat B.F. is hurt.

Yesterday evening BF climbed in Kore’s lap and Kore realized that her chest was damp. When we investigated we found a laceration on her chest, under her right front leg, at least an inch long. We decided to wait until the morning to bring her to the vet because the wound didn’t show any signs of infection, and frankly no one has the funds to deal with the additional costs an emergency vet would mean.
However, Kore was unable to take her to our vet this morning because he wasn’t in today, and neither were several other vets around our area due to the fact that it’s “cattle season”. I couldn’t do much but hope and pray given I had to work today, but she was able to take B.F. to another vet two towns over, and get seen within fifteen minutes.
The vet that Kore saw said that things were actually fairly good, all things considered, and assured Kore that given the wound was not actually infected we might be able to avoid surgery. She has a followup on Friday, and if the wound is looking healthy (warning that link *is* a picture of her today as best we can take and does involve wounds and ickiness), we’re in the clear. If it isn’t healing, well, that means surgery and a butt load of expenses on top of what she had to shell out today. The vet gave B.F. steroids and antibiotics. We need to pick up beta-dine and rub a cream onto the cut at least twice a day. I’m sure you can all imagine how much fun that’s going to be for all three of us. That is, if we can coax her into the house long enough to bathe the damned wound.
If anyone sees fit to help us, well, Kore, out with donations towards the present and future vet bill. It would be much appreciated by all involved. I would love to tell her not to worry about it, but we’re not exactly rolling in the dough (unless the “win the lottery” plan for retirement pans out) and Kore is a starving college student, so you can imagine how freaked out she is, add to that the fact that B.F. is her baby and familiar, and well…
I’m currently setting things up to do a donation tarot drive with funds going towards the bill, which is currently $160 and could climb as high as $350 so long as there are no complications with the procedure, then who knows.

Kore and I have also been talking about doing a raffle for some of our hand-made jewelry or perhaps sponsored beading. We’re still ironing things out between school and vet trips and trying to wrangle B.F. in order to continue her treatment.
If nothing else, prayers, thoughts, candles and blessings are much appreciated for her speedy healing. Thank you.
