Things I Miss

October 24th, 2008

I miss a lot of things. I miss being able to buy groceries for less than $200 a week. I went yesterday to get a few refill items and it cost $96. It’s ridiculous. I’m filling out an application for food stamps right now. I hate doing it; but I’m willing to because we need to eat, and at this rate groceries are costing us more than electricity, and that’s saying a lot given our electricity bill is over $200 now, because it’s gone up $12 in the past month just for fuel rate increase.

I remember this time last year I was thinking about luxuries. I was planning on signing us up for the wine of the month club, and we had Netflix, and were looking at getting other things, now it’s just trying to survive from month to month.

on the upside, gas prices are going down. There are several stations around us with gas for $2.36 a gallon. People are lining up for it.

This is very true. On the way back from G’ville on Monday I was able to fill up for 2.41 in a small town on the back road. Which meant it was under $20 for a half tank of gas, which is amazing, given the time before I filled up it was almost $40 for 2/3 of a tank.

Groceries are insane…have you checked out some of the frugal blogs on my blog roll? There are some great grocery deals to be had out there! It takes some work with coupons and stuff but it’s worth it these days!

Thank you for reminding me. I’ve been trying to find coupon places myself but the sites are really confusing when you find them through google, and half the time they’re for things I would never get…

http://www.cashcrate.com has a coupon section that looks pretty good. They also have good ‘pay you to try’ stuff offers. I signed up for the site but haven’t done anything with it yet. They’re supposed to be the best at paying out on time. At any rate, they’ve gotten good reviews on the ‘net.
