Drying Off

August 25th, 2008

I think we’re finally shot of the dregs of Tropical Storm Fay. I wasn’t all that worried about the storm from the way it was going and the strength of it. I was figuring, well, we need a lot of rain so rain will be good, what I didn’t reckon on was losing power several times over the past few days, which makes things awkward to say the least when you’re trying to, oh, I don’t know do work.

I was about to break out the swimwear and start the painting and things anyway, but now things seem to have calmed down. It’s actually been dry for at least a day, and we’re starting now to get the supplies together to finish the shed and get the new room finished.

I’m hoping to have things finished before both my husband’s birthday and our room mates, which are the end of September/October time, and from what we’re being told things should take about seven or eight days work, so that’s promising. It’s a longer time estimate than we’d at first been given by the previous contractor, BUT for the time and labor it’s actually cheaper, and this guy is a lot more trustworthy than the previous guy. His estimate of “a day” actually kinda bothered me along with other things I’ve probably already ranted about.

So, we’ll see how things go. Today I’m hoping to go out and look at a couple of other places which have doors and windows, and then tomorrow perhaps go up to the Lumber store and order the next bath of delivery items, so we have the supplies ready for the builder next week, and can maybe get the shed finished too. I can see I’ll be calling up some friends and going “PLEEEEEEEASE,” again, but I also feel somewhat better about this than us relying on the same friend over and over again to help bail us out with things. Still need to do something more than nice for all the help he’s given us already with the shed, and pointers he’s given us already about the room conversion.
