title pic Where I Grew Up

Posted by User ImageAmi-chan on October 18, 2007

You may remember me mentioning when I was blogging about our recent trip to Daytona Beach how different it is to where I grew up. I managed to find a few photos that I still had that were taken of the beach “back home”. For those who might not know I was born in England, which can make things a bit interesting around our house sometimes. Like I have no idea what the Indianapolis Colts is about, but I could tell you quite a bit about the rivalry between Man-City and Man-United. To which my husband goes, “Who??”.

Anyway, football is not the only thing that’s different over there. The beaches are pretty strange in comparison, too.

Morecambe Bay
I grew up in a little village right next to the fishing town of Morecambe, which is located in the North West of England. Reputedly in it’s hey-day back in the Victorian era it was a lively tourist attraction much like Daytona is over here, but the state it was in when I was growing up over there I have a hard time believing it.

Morecambe Bay
Well, the fishing village part I can believe, because we often used to go down and get fresh shrimp caught from the bay and shell it to eat later, but the tourist part…not so much.

Morecambe Bay
Just before I moved they did revamp “The Stone Jetty” and make that part look nicer, but overall the town was a bit of a shell of it’s former self.

Morecambe Bay
Morecambe is famous for the fact that when you look across the bay you can see the Lake District, but unfortunately none of these pictures show that feature because they were apparently taken on very gloomy overcast days, and with my old camera which was non-digital, and very basic given a fifteen-year old really doesn’t need anything too fancy.

I have altered these a little in Photoshop given they were scans of old prints, so I had to brighten them up a little bit and in many cases crop out the paper that was backing them out of the old album, but overall they’re much the same.

Yes, those are rocks on the beach and there isn’t really any sand…so, what about you guys? Where did you grow up?
