Friendship Pledges
July 1st, 2007Going through the old album is a total jog down memory lane. It’s interesting to see people that you haven’t seen in a while and to refresh your memory on events and pledges.
Pledges. Yes.
You see we knew for quite some time that we were emigrating, but we only let certain people know. Family members, and a few close friends. It was wonderful in some ways and heart breaking in others, because it meant that those friends would help me to go places and take pictures of things which were important to us. Significant events and the like, but it also meant that for a long time I knew, and they knew, that we weren’t going to see each other, in some cases ever again. I had a lot of very good friends, but only one has really stayed in touch with me, and I find it interesting that my Mum and my Grandparents had predicted correctly which one of my friends she would be.
I also find it interesting that she is one of the few of my friends who wrote out a pledge to do just that and gave it to me to put in my memory album. I wrote a pledge to her, and despite gaps in time we do still stay in touch. I just got an email from her a few days ago. She is a sweet kind, and wonderful person, and even now asks about not just me but my parents and how they’re doing. She’s sent anniversary cards to my parents, and she’s flown here to visit us, sadly more times than I’ve been able to fly out and visit her because our finances are such crap.
We’re so close even now that I consider her my sister in heart and soul. She flew out to be my maid of honour at my wedding. I hope some day I get to reciprocate all her kindness, and can fly out to visit her for a change.
I love you Kel!

Awww….that’s so sweet! You gave me chills! I’m so glad that you have remained in contact all this time and remained so close – that is awesome!

She sounds like one of those friends that no matter how much time passes without being able to talk to each other, when you do get the opportunity you are able to simply pick up exactly where you left off.

Thanks. I’m very grateful to her too, although some of our communciation
but
does involve her sending me addictive net games which eat all my time
she still thinks of me and I of her. Right now we’re trying to arrange a
catch-up phone call but it’s going to take a little while.

Yes, she is. It’s wonderful. I noticed it most when she came over for my wedding and it was like we’d never been apart, even though our emails and contact throughout the year can get very sporadic because of our schedules and finances.

You know what, I do have a friend like that! And she was in my wedding, too. She lives in New York and we were calling a couple times a year – and just like The Green Fairy said, it was like we’d never missed a day! But we haven’t talked in like 4 years or more now. I think you’ve just encouraged me to look her up! Yea!
