Waiting…

No joy on cars today; but it worked out for the best there. We found something we could afford, and could pay off pretty quickly, but there was just something not right. My husband took it to our mechanic and found out that despite the fact we were in his jurisdiction the person who ran the dealership we were at had bold-faced lied. The car was not ‘running fine’; it was about to lose it’s air conditioning, had lost it’s cooling fan and had been repainted red from grey to cover the fact that it was in an accident previously.
The mechanic actually called some of the other people over to show them how badly off the vehicle was. As hubbie says you don’t want to hear your mechanic open your car hood and go, “What the bleep is this mess?” So very glad we checked with him before going ahead. I had my misgivings but with cars it’s very hard for me to define anything beyond, “NO BAD! BAD! BAD!” and hubbie might well have thought I just didn’t want him to have that type of car because it was more sporty.
Needless to say we’re not going back to that dealership. It takes some kind of something to try and pull something like that one someone whose a cop…granted the guy didn’t find out hubbie was a cop until after he’d put gas in that car and told him he could take it down to the mechanic, and he was also a worker not the owner of the place, when hubbie came back and said he wasn’t taking it the owner was going, “You know you look familiar…” and hubbie said, “Yeah, I work for the P.D.” and the guy then goes, “Oh, well, you know we have some other vehicles in better shape I can show you, I can work with you on the price and everything,” and hubbie says, “Well, we have some other places we’re going to check into and then we’ll be back here if those don’t work out,” which we won’t…but diplomacy is key, even in the face of liars.

Our mechanic does have some acquaintance who are selling a Saturn of some sort, but we weren’t able to get hold of them today. We stopped by around 4 p.m. and they don’t get back from work until after 5 p.m. We couldn’t wait around for them with the munchkin in the car, so we stopped back by the mechanic to give him something for stopping us losing money on the other vehicle and to see if he could get them in touch with us or us in touch with them. If not, I’ll just keep setting money aside so that I can be replenshing our savings account, along with some extra to be sure I have taxes aside for next year, as it looks like by next month or May at the latest I’ll have made enough at the paid blogging to have to pay taxes on it.

We also looked at some town houses which are being built in the city that looked as though they would be ‘cute’ and ’safe’ for us to live in, but they’re also very much out of our budget. The cheapest was a 1/4 million! Considering we couldn’t afford a mortgage payment on something half that price…not happening. We’ll hold out until the other development breaks ground and see how much those are going for. As soon as I saw the townhouses were on water I knew we were doomed there.
