Four months check-up
August 29th, 2006We have a new pedi (and there was MUCH rejoicing). Our regular doctor who I’ve really started to despise because he’s very chauvenistic and very derogatory at times was out sick today, so I got a different doctor at the clinic who is much nicer. She actually talked to me, played with Declan, chatted about regular stuff other than just doing the medically necessary things and leaving. Made me feel a lot more reassured, discussed options with me, rather than just acting like it was her way or I was doing something terrible to my son.
Also did not go on the whole time about how he’s not gaining enough weight, even though his average gain is 1lb a week.
He is 26 1/4 inches and 17lbs 4oz, which while it’s not double his birthweight as Dr. N kept insisting he should be is fine, because he’s in 90th percentile for height and weight for his age (as big as your average 6 month old baby), and is happy, giggly, playful and alert.
She agrees that he’s starting to teethe, and given my answers and his performance (he must have rolled over eight times during the exam) said that he’s at about 5 1/2 – 6 mos developmentally.
When I call up for his six mos appointment I’m going to request this lady. She’s actually the wife of the doctor who discharged us from the hospital when Declan was born.
She was even telling me about a place locally that’s having a sale on baby clothes, and came in to make sure I was okay while I was waiting for the nurse to come give him his shots, and then to check and make sure we didn’t have any kids who were old enough to be in school because there’s been a change in times because of the pending tropical storm.
So, we’re all fine here. The storm isn’t going to be so bad by the time it gets up near us, probably just a lot of thunder and rain, tons of rain.
