Two months!

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

It’s amazing to think that two months ago now we were getting set up at the hospital and starting the induction, but it’s true.

The 2 month check-up had it’s ups and downs, but overall things are going well.
The down was that Declan had to have four shots, and we left the building with him screaming blue murder and very agitated. He took a long time to settle down when I got home, and kept waking up from sleep and whimpering and crying, thankfully Jer’s wife Becka helped us out in the evening, and he’s doing fine now. He only had a slight fever, and really is none the worse for wear.

Week 6 Double checks

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

I had my post-partum appt yesterday and his check-up was this morning.
I’m down to 214lbs, and everything is fine with me. Scar has healed up perfect despite the infection, and is a pretty straight line. No worries for me on that score. Okay to start exercising any way I see fit :)
Declan, wow, he is so much improved. He weighs 11lbs now. Bright-eyed, bushy tailed, laughing and giggling. He now follows his crib mobile with his eyes if we turn it on giggling away the whole time, can almost support his head, sleeps almost through at night and doesn’t kick up quite so much fuss at diaper changes. He actually stayed with MIL yesterday while I went to the doctor’s and then wrestled the WIC office to get checks for his formula supplements and pretty much just ate and slept the whole time.

YAY!

Weight this morning: 9lbs 14oz.
That’s 2oz a day gain, or thereabouts. Dr. N. gave me paperwork so that WIC will start providing us formula and we won’t have to buy it.
I had bought another one this morning because we had run out last night, so that’s $25 we’ve spent on formula and two cartons didn’t quite last us a week, so that’s a rough expense. He also gave me another carton, so now I have two cartons again, so we should be able to hold off on the WIC appt until after my Dr’s appt on Wed for my six week post-partum check-up which means I can have my WIC appt and Declan’s on the same day, which will save a lot of time (appts at the WIC office usually mean you’re there at least three hours).
So, phew.
Maybe I can even schedule it for Wednesday mid-morning and just go there after my appt because the WIC office and Dr. R are in the same building save gas as well.

Anyway, so Declan seems to be back on track as far as everything goes. We have to go back next week for a check-up with Dr. N just to make sure he’s staying on track.

Week 5

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

Things have been going both good and bad. At last weeks month check-up I thought we were ‘out of the woods’ with regards to the problems with feeding and his stomach given he was back up to 9lbs and had grown to 22 1/2 inches (which is 75-90th percentile for growth at his age). His pediatrician said that’s really not enough weight gain because he’s supposed to be gaining an ounce a day, and he hasn’t done that. By a month old he should have made back his birth weight if not passed it, and he hasn’t. (more…)
