Week 2

May 11th, 2006

Well, we’re surviving. He’d put weight back on at his first ped appt up to 9lbs 1oz, but this second one he was down to 8lbs 14 1/2 oz. Dr. N said he wasn’t too concerned because he’s still very alert, strong and healthy, but we have an appt for next Wed so we can keep an eye on things.
I think part of the weight loss is probably to do with the fact that we wound up spending the weekend at the ILs because my incision has been infected, and D was still working so he wanted me to stay there so that there were people who could help me out with Declan, but because I was feeling rough and everything and there were several times he slept through feedings that probably has something to do with it.
Dr N. gave us some pointers on ways to keep him awake during feeding so that he can feed for longer, though, and I’ve been implementing those, so we’ll see how things go on Wed. He also sanctioned the use of gripe water. He apparently had that when he was younger, growing up in India.
I’m on antibiotics now for the infection, and Dr. R (OB) checked up on me yesterday and took the last of the steri-strips off. She seems to think things are clearing up, but I have to go back tomorrow as well so she can keep an eye on things. I’m at least allowed to take proper baths and showers now, yay, and it’s getting a LOT easier for me to move. I can actually bend down to pick things up off the floor now without too much difficulity, and also I found this morning I can actually lay on my side in bed ^_^

On the upside we found I’ve lost almost all the baby weight already. I’m down to 219lbs (13 stone 11) from 243 (15 stone 3). I was 215 (13 stone 7) at my first OB appt in September. I’m probably going to borrow some of Mum’s Weightwatchers information though so that I can lose a little bit more weight.
I have to talk to WIC and the doctor to see what a good weight for me would be. At the very least I need to get under 200 lbs (12 1/2 stone) that will help a lot with the FMS symptoms. My idea at the moment is to be around 170 lbs (10 stone 10), but we’ll see what happens when I talk to the doctors.

Declan’s belly button fell off in the small hours of yesterday morning. This morning he got his first real bath and screamed the entire time, but he at least didn’t pee on me (for once). He was crying and very cranky for a good ten-fifteen minutes after he was dried off and re-diapered, but now he’s fallen asleep next to me on the couch, although I’m going to have to wake him up once I finished this update so that I can feed him again.
