Update from the ILs still
December 5th, 2005We’re still living with my in-law’s for right now, but we’re on a wait list to get into an apartment complex which said we should be moved in by January, so that’s something. We keep hoping we’ll get a call sooner, but it’s not looking like it’s going to a happen. The complex gave us a discount on the application fee/deposit because D is a police officer, so that was a nice suprise. We had been looking at renting a house, but the yard maintainence and the fact that anything in our rental range was in ‘not safe’ neighborhoods, or ‘not good’ condition made us go back to looking at complexes even though they are slightly more expensive, the benefits are worth while. The complex we’re looking at is in MtD, one of D’s co-workers and his wife live there, as do several members of the Sheriff’s Dept, Forestry Dept, and MDPD One of D’s friends from the Academy who now works for MDPD told us that they never get any disturbance calls from that complex, also, so that was v. cheering to hear.
Work has been going v. well for D. He hasn’t been made permanent yet, but they keep saying ‘any day now’. We were hoping by Thanksgiving, but his FTO hadn’t been able to talk to the chief. He’s been acing all his assessments though, and getting rave reviews, so we keep our fingers crossed. Unfortunately he has to work Yule weekend, but we’ll have the weekend before, three days off together, and Boxing Day, because the non-essential city departments are closed the day after, due to Christmas falling on a weekend so I don’t have to go back to work until Tuesday.
Baby news is still on the up and up. We had what we thought was going to be our one and only ultrasound just before Thanksgiving, but we get to have another one, because they want to make sure I don’t need a c-section, and despite Babe being shy at first we were able to find out gender (you’re all going to uncles). Yes, Babe is a boy, so now we’re just trying to narrow down names. We’ve had some ‘helpful’ suggestions from friend’s and co-workers: Papa Smurf, and some old Biblical classics like Methusala and Nebuchadnezzar, and despite those, have a list of about twelve, we’re trying to whittle down, but we have time. The official due date is two weeks either side of April 23rd. I’m actually starting to feel Babe making his presence known more often now, which has been interesting. He gets very active on the rare occassions I treat myself to a frappucino or something chocolatey.
Right now the main other thing we’re debating is if I will go back to work after he’s born, or not, considering the cost of daycare and health insurance and all the rest of it. We’re weighing options and finances very carefully. At one point it was actually looking as though it would be more feasible financially to fly back to England to have the baby o.O;
I have registered the names for the independent businesses I’ve been trying to set up, as well: web design & hypnotherapy. So, now I just need to sort out tax information advertising, and occupational licenses, legalities and the like. It’s a slow process mostly because of the very confusing wording. But I’m at step 3! and I’ve had quite a few bites of interest, so I really should move on to the next step and get business cards printed, post haste.
