New jobs and SURPRISES!

September 25th, 2005

As many of you know D has been trying to get jobs with the local police departments in Lake and Orange counties, without much success for some time, due to his lack of experience. Recently we’ve been working with both EPD and UPD who’d contacted him around the same time looking for references. UPD came through, though. He got furthest with them, going for polygraph, gun testing and all the rest of it. They offered him a position and he was sworn in a few Tuesdays ago, starts work this Tuesday. He’ll be working the 5 p.m to 5 a.m. shift while he goes through training. The day after he was hired EPD called us trying to get further information and testing. I suppose that’s the way it goes. Nothing for six months and then everyone wants you!
UPD is a small police department, so they’re very excited by the fact that D has a degree in Criminal Justice.

The library I’m working at is undergoing some changes. We broke ground on a new facility on the 22nd of August, but it probably won’t be done until next Summer. The new building is going to be at least twice the size of the building we have now. I was going to grad school to get a Masters in Information Science in the hopes of being a librarian, but events have conspired several times to impede those studies, and so I’ve been looking into other things. At the end of August I completed a round of courses in Clinical Hypnotism. In two weeks I will be taking another set of courses in Regression Therapy. It’s something which I found appeals to me a lot more than the library work. I like being able to help people and work with them, but a lot of the behind the scenes bureaucracy and things of that nature have really been dragging me down. We’ll see how this goes.

But that’s not all our news. The same day that D was sworn in I had a doctor’s appointment for my annual physical and so on. When I was there, we found out something else, that was extremely suprising and unexpected. We found out that I was about three weeks pregnant. Things are certainly changing for us, and very quickly. At the end of the month I have another doctor’s appointment where we should be able to find out more details about the baby, more accurately how far along I am, and when abouts we might expect the baby to be born.
