Spyware 3 Ami nil, Computers nil Ami 2

December 16th, 2004

My work computer is still infested. I ran Adware right after I booted it up, purged the 60+ files, and then went to clean computers. When I came back forty-five minutes later the computer had experienced BSoD. I rebooted. Every hour or so, it BSoD'd again. I'm contemplating if I want to risk the potential trouble I could get into going through DOS and seeing if I can clean it up that way. It's probably going to be quicker than waiting for Tech Support. I may ask if I can try. At least that way I have my bases covered, like when I 'discovered' the way to turn CybraryN on and off.
I did manage to clean up the main room computers where patrons have found ways around the new security system. I was at work a year before I saw someone had circumvented the old password system. We've had CybraryN all of three weeks and already they can get around it. I'm not seeing how this is better. I felt somewhat vindicated that I was able to fix Miss Carol's printing problem. Apparently when the county finally decided they were actually responsible for replacing her hard drive which had died they either didn't install or mis-installed the printer, and so she reported this issue via the proper channels and nothing has come of it. Honey mentioned this morning that they were having issues, which she thought was perhaps a faulty cable and she would try and get tape to stick it in place >_<;; I volunteered to see if I could do something about it without having to resort to such desperate measures. I didn't want to be up in the office with Honey, though, because I'm sick and potentially contagious, and she's still going through chemo. So she said (from across the room >_<) she would try again and if not she would call me and then she would clear out of the office and come back down to the ordering computer and I could go up there.
She came back about twenty minutes later. Thankfully the printing issue was actually not the cables, but the fact that now the printers have to be attached via IP address rather than through the 'old network' as soon as I pointed the computer to the IP address it magically found the printer, yay ^_^
Of course I came back downstairs and my computer had locked up with sixteen thousand pop-ups and then BSoD'd again >_<;;;

When I mentioned yesterday I thought I was coming down with something, but Boss had hinted with a sledgehammer that I should come in today because They were coming to install Checkpoint, which involves computers and someone would need to know how to work it. I woke up and felt guilty at the idea of calling in on my computer cleaning day. So, I came in.
Boss sent me home just after lunch.
Which I was glad about because combine the teeth chattering, the computer dying every three seconds and the tar smell, I really wasn't getting much work done. Plus the Checkpoint guys were spending most of their time on the phone with tech support, and I really don't think I would have been much help absorbing technical information, especially as the Guy In Charge was reminding me far too much of the asshole who installed DSL, but let's not get started on my issues with DSL. :-p

On the upside I had managed, in the few seconds between pop-ups to rattle off a quick email to D that he needed to pick up Mari-Mom's invites. He said he would come by when I got off work, so when I got home early I called him and told him he could come over whenever. It's sad when his first question is, "is it the usual?" but he came over and he brought movies to watch if I wasn't asleep, and was all set to leave when Dad told him I was, but I wasn't. I was just laying in bed snuggling with Ani. D made me stay in bed and we snuggled instead. So that was cool, despite Dad's sneezing.
He left Xena Season 1 with me so I can watch it if I wind up home tomorrow. He was teasing me because I was all rambly. It was funny at the time, but I don't remember much if any of it now >_<;; and it would probably have been insufferably cute anyway. Apparently some of it was to do with me saying something which to him sounded like they were X-Men in my room. I don't remember what that was about either O.o
Mari-Mom called while D was over to tell me if he was over visiting with me could I give him the extra invitations *dies* ah, well. It's better to have her remind me than for me to forget again like I did on shower day, right? *plastic smile* this is my payback. This is to show me how annoying it gets when I fret at other people all the time and why I shouldn't do it.

In other cool news though because he was over 'nurse-maiding' me I got to find out right when he did that he has passed the Law Enforcement Exam, yay ^_^
